Performance
We love to perform. We love the excitement and the energy. We love sharing our work with an audience. We love the sense of accomplishment and completion.
With the help of our friends and senior students, we perform as BaKongo, and have released a CD of traditional percussion and vocal music entitled BaKongo- Drumming Music for Dancers.
In many of the traditions in which we work, there is no clear line between the performer and the audience. These forms provide ways for everyone to be involved. When the drums play, you can be part of it by dancing to the rhythms. When songs are sung in a call-and-response style or chanted repeatedly, it's easy to learn the words and join in.
We love to help others discover their inner performer. We encourage everyone to participate. Don't just be a spectator in life. Join in the fun.
We also perform as part of our teaching. We offer demonstrations of various styles of music and dance, combined with information about the historical and cultural context.
